Pros and Cons

Acer Nitro 7

Strengths

A relatively slim and light gaming laptop that packs a punch, weighing just 2.5 kilos and measuring only 23 millimeters at its thickest point.
Solid value for money, priced at £1,400.
Strong performance from Intel's Core i7 9750H chipset backed by 8GB of DDR4 RAM, with scores of 4718 in PC Mark 10 and 1903779 in Geekbench.
The GeForce GTX 1660 TI card provides no sweat on the graphics front, complete with 6GB of VRAM onboard.
Strong cooling system, with twin fan systems that keep CPU temperature below 95°C and GPU temperature around 80°C during intense gaming sessions.
Long battery life, despite being a gaming laptop, lasting just under an hour of gaming action on a single charge.
Good connectivity options, including three USB ports, one USB-C port, and an HDMI output.
Nice screen with Full HD resolution, perfectly crisp visuals, and 144Hz refresh rate for smooth gaming performance.

Weaknesses

Not the most portable laptop, despite its slim design, due to a weight of 2.5 kilos.
No DisplayPort available, only HDMI output, which may limit users' display options.
No Ethernet connection available, relying on Wi-Fi for connectivity.
Battery life is not spectacular, lasting just under an hour of gaming action on a single charge.
Limited control over fan speed and temperature through the Acer Nitro Sense app.
No one-touch overclock feature like some other Acer gaming laptops.
Stereo speakers are decent but may not provide the full audio experience for gamers.
The keyboard, while good, has a relatively compact design with a dedicated number pad that may feel cramped to some users.

Acer Chromebook Plus 514

Strengths

The new Acer Chromebook Plus 514 is a device that makes a very deep impression on what can be delivered on a shoestring budget.
It has a solid experience with all the stuff that makes for it: clam shell, touchscreen, keyboard, and trackpad.
The build is surprisingly sturdy and doesn't feel like it's bending or creaking under its own weight.
The screen is great for this price range: 16x9 aspect ratio, 300 nits of brightness, anti-glare coating, and touch input.
The keyboard is surprisingly good with no backlight but still usable for daily routines.
It has a decent selection of I/O ports, including USB Type-A and Type-C, headphone jack, microphone jack, Kensington lock, and micro SD card slot.
It comes with 8GB of RAM and a whopping 512GB of SSD storage, which is impressive for the price.

Weaknesses

The build quality feels a bit cheap, although it's sturdy and doesn't bend or creak.
The click mechanism on the trackpad can be a bit finicky, especially above halfway point.
The camera above the screen has colors that aren't great, but you get all the new camera tricks like background blur and noise cancellation.
There's no HDMI port, which might be a drawback for some users.
The speakers are decent but not exceptional for video calls or YouTube watching.
The trackpad can feel cheapened by the click mechanism, especially above halfway point.
Although the keyboard is good, it's not the best keyframe I've typed on.
