Pros and Cons

Acer Predator Helios 18

Strengths

The 18in QHD 250Hz mini LED display is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for media consumption and games.
Performance is right where it should be, with unfr CPU performance in turbo mode and competitive results in our benchmarks.
The RTX 480 GPU performs admirably, being one of the fastest of NVIDIA's second best mobile cards we have ever tested.
System performance is also very snappy, both subjectively and backed up by our PC Mark 10 tests.
The design approach ASA is taking with their 2023 Helios lineup is tasteful and well-executed, with a fine line between gamer and subtle performer.

Weaknesses

The notebook performs rather poorly in our SSD benchmarks, with the Samsung Drive offering some very fast initial read rates that get fuddled quite severely rather quickly.
Fan noise can be an issue, especially in turbo mode, which makes the Helios one of the loudest notebooks we have ever tested.
Battery life is not great, with around 4 and 1/2 hours in our Wi-Fi test with the screen and SDR set to 150 nits.
The webcam is just okay, if nothing special.
Throttled SSD performance under prolonged and probably also not very realistic load can be a limitation.

Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro

Strengths

The Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro has excellent pen support provided by the Wacom EMR pen, which is great for tasks such as drawing and writing.
The device has a 15.6-inch 4K display that covers 100% of the Adobe RGB spectrum, with a brightness of 400 nits, making it ideal for professional applications.
The ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro comes with an assortment of I/O ports, including two Thunderbolt Type-A, full-size HDMI and DisplayPort, Ethernet, and an SD card reader.
The device has ECC memory and up to 2TB of storage, making it suitable for demanding professional workloads.
The ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro has a metal arc oxidization coating that should be more resilient to scratches and discoloration than traditional anodization.

Weaknesses

The device is relatively bulky and may not be the most portable option, despite its elegant design.
The price of the ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro starts at $2,699 for the non-Pro version, making it a significant investment for professionals.
The pen performance is excellent in some apps but still needs improvement in others, which may affect productivity.
The device's hinge and torsional spring design requires its own aluminum injection mold, which may add to the cost and complexity of production.
The display resolution and brightness are excellent, but it would be nice to have a higher refresh rate for smoother performance.
