Pros and Cons

Alienware m18 R1

Strengths

The Alienware M18 is a good first go for an 18-inch laptop from Dell Alienware
The looks are well, it's up to you but I think alien Wees look pretty cool
It has nice build quality on it and keyboard is to die for
You can get it with DDR 5 4800 MHz Ram or faster Ram too as an option that's available
It's a good performer and if you're into alien Wares and you want something big, it don't get bigger than this

Weaknesses

The CPU temperature is running so high for such a big chassis with so much fancy cooling going on
The displays are decent but I would like to see some more shock in all of the contrast maybe mini LED when you're getting into the upper tier W Dell offers
It's not exactly expected huge battery life here, Intel 13 gen probably the same will be true for Intel 14th gen
Dell claims about 5 and 1 half hours of streaming video time which seems perhaps optimistic
The speakers are just okay, some base not a lot, a reasonable volume enough to drown out the fans

Asus ZenBook 14X OLED

Strengths

Getting a really fast Core i7 CPU for a thousand dollars is a steal
A beautiful 2.8k OLED display with 120hz refresh rate gives you an incredible viewing experience
Integrated numpad is an awesome addition for those who work with numbers
The laptop features premium features found on ASUS's own Flagship series
The design of the ZenBook 14X OLED is really nice
It has a 20-thread 8-series chip inside, which is impressive for its price point
Performance mode squeezes 45 Watts out of the Core i7 CPU, keeping temperatures and noise in check
Whisper mode puts the laptop into a semi-passive mode that is quieter than most laptops

Weaknesses

The ZenBook 14X OLED gets well under nine hours battery life, which is a bit disappointing
Running a chip like Core i7 takes a serious hit on battery life
Battery life is sacrificed to get the powerful CPU inside this laptop
Performance results are inconsistent, sometimes it's ahead and other times laptops from 2022 end up being better
Gaming performance is mixed bag, it performs well for integrated Graphics but one percent lows can be dominated by other laptops
The ZenBook 14X OLED costs around 50% more with the 3900H and RT X3050, which is a bit pricey
There are plenty of other gaming laptops around the $1500 price point that give you better price to performance ratios without sacrificing too much weight
One percent lows in games can be dominated by other laptops, which is not ideal
