Pros and Cons

Asus VivoBook S14 S433

Strengths

The laptop's mid-range price tag is fair considering its performance.
It performs well for what it is, especially in terms of CPU performance.
The i7 + MX250 version of the higher-tier ASUS Zenbook 14 UX434 has been outperformed by this laptop in our tests.
The 100% sRGB screen is a nice touch and provides good color accuracy.
The backlit keyboard in the higher-tier S433FL versions is a welcome feature.
The MX250 graphic chip is more powerful than what you normally get on a 14-inch Ultrabook.
Despite thermal limitations, the laptop still performs well in games, especially with a cooling pad.

Weaknesses

The thermal design of the laptop leaves much to be desired, and it can get hot during gaming sessions.
The GPU stabilizes at around 70-80% of its maximum capacity in demanding titles, leading to reduced performance over time.
The bottom aluminum panel heats up quickly, further impacting component temperatures and speed.
There is no USBC charging option, so you'll have to always bring along the included Barrow plug charger.
The CPU temperatures can reach 70-80 degrees Celsius during gaming sessions.
The GPU stabilizes at around 7-15% higher clocks with a cooling pad, but still not ideal.
If you're looking for better performance, AMD Ryzen 4000 notebooks might be a more competitive option.

Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED

Strengths

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is an admirable first attempt at a flexible laptop design.
Its flexibility changed from being a big tablet for watching shows and movies to an ultra-portable that let me work in tight spaces to a portable desktop that I could use as my command station away from home.
Between Windows 11 and ASUS's Screen expert software, it's much easier to choose the right app layout for whatever mode you're in.
The decision to include a bigger 17.3 inch screen gives you more room for work or play while also making content look great.
The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED lasted 14 hours and 9 minutes in desktop mode and an even better 15 hours and 26 minutes in laptop mode, which is a good mark for any portable PC.

Weaknesses

The Bluetooth keyboard struggled to stay connected, requiring me to unpair and repair it every time the Zenbook went to sleep.
The touchpad was sometimes erratic or slow to respond to my commands.
The system failed to automatically recognize when you lay the keyboard on top of the bottom half of the screen in laptop mode for some reason, causing everything to jump back into full screen mode until you lift the keyboard and drop it down again.
The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a weird oversight - the Bluetooth keyboard needs to be charged separately, which feels like an afterthought compared to other devices.
Some of ASUS's software and pre-loaded apps are rather irritating, such as McAfee Livesafe constantly bombarding you with unnecessary notifications and trying to find important settings in the Maya Asus app is a real chore.
