Pros and Cons

Dell G7 15

Strengths

A really nice build quality with a metal finish
A 4k oled screen that is vivid, goes up to 400 nits, and is nice and bright
A 6 core Intel Core i7-10750H processor
An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2070 Max-Q GPU with eight gigabytes of vram

Weaknesses

CPU thermals are an issue due to the thin chassis design
The screen is only 60Hz, which may not be suitable for high-refresh games
There's only a single M.2 slot and no way to add a SATA drive, making storage upgrades more complicated
The cooling solution can't handle the CPU's default clock speed, leading to throttling

GIGABYTE A5

Strengths

The XMG Apex 15 / Gigabyte A5 X1 is a decent gaming laptop with decent gaming performance, despite the RTX 3070 being close to 2080 Super Max-Q machines from last generation.
The 5900HX processor seems to be the reason it's doing so well in CPU and content creator workloads, making it a great option for those who need strong processing power.
The screen has great response time and ok color gamut and brightness, although my model did not have FreeSync.
The battery can be completely swapped out, which is a pretty uncommon feature these days.

Weaknesses

The build quality and materials aren't quite as nice as some of those more expensive options from larger brands, but that's partly why it's priced better - a compromise in terms of price.
Battery life wasn't great, although this may be improved with the RTX 3060 graphics or 6 core 5600H processor options.
The Clevo software and BIOS are pretty limited, not letting you control the chip properly, especially since the HX series is supposed to be unlocked.
Thermals weren't great, with CPU thermal throttling at 95 degrees Celsius even with the fan maxed out and a cooling pad.

Dell G7 15

The Dell G7 15-inch gaming laptop is an intriguing device that promises to deliver on performance and visuals, but falls short in certain areas. With its sleek metal build, vibrant 4K OLED screen, and powerful GeForce GTX 2070 GPU, it's a compelling option for gamers seeking a premium experience. However, issues with CPU thermals and limited storage options may deter some users, making this laptop a mixed bag. Is the price tag justified? Let's dive in to find out.

GIGABYTE A5

The XMG Apex 15 / GIGABYTE A5 X1 is a gaming laptop that boasts impressive specs, including an RTX 3070 graphics card and Ryzen 9 5900HX processor. While it excels in content creator workloads, its performance is somewhat limited by the inability to control power limits and optimize thermals. The build quality is decent but not outstanding, with some compromises on materials and I/O options. Despite these trade-offs, this laptop remains a viable option for those seeking strong gaming and productivity capabilities at a competitive price.
