Pros and Cons

GIGABYTE A5

Strengths

The XMG Apex 15 / Gigabyte A5 X1 is a decent gaming laptop with decent gaming performance, despite the RTX 3070 being close to 2080 Super Max-Q machines from last generation.
The 5900HX processor seems to be the reason it's doing so well in CPU and content creator workloads, making it a great option for those who need strong processing power.
The screen has great response time and ok color gamut and brightness, although my model did not have FreeSync.
The battery can be completely swapped out, which is a pretty uncommon feature these days.

Weaknesses

The build quality and materials aren't quite as nice as some of those more expensive options from larger brands, but that's partly why it's priced better - a compromise in terms of price.
Battery life wasn't great, although this may be improved with the RTX 3060 graphics or 6 core 5600H processor options.
The Clevo software and BIOS are pretty limited, not letting you control the chip properly, especially since the HX series is supposed to be unlocked.
Thermals weren't great, with CPU thermal throttling at 95 degrees Celsius even with the fan maxed out and a cooling pad.

HP Pavilion 14

Strengths

The design is an aluminium body or at least aluminium coated, which feels sturdy and slim. It's also lightweight, weighing around 1.4 kg.
The 14 inch full HD LED IPS display has amazing viewing angles, is anti-glare, and can play 4k videos without any problem.
The hinges are high quality and sturdy, making it easy to open the laptop with both hands.
The Intel Core i5 11th gen processor with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD storage provides fast boot times and smooth performance for daily tasks.
The laptop can edit videos well, including 1080p videos, although editing 4k videos may be challenging.
The keyboard has shortcut function keys, is backlit, and has two brightness levels, making it convenient to use in dark environments.
The trackpad is of good quality, accurate, and has its own HP gesture controls, making navigation easy.
The laptop has a fingerprint sensor, a 720p webcam, dual array microphones, and built-in stereo speakers, making video calling and audio playback possible.
