Is it Worth it?

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook offers great value for its price point. As a refurb model, I paid just £108, which is an absolute steal. The device itself is in like-new condition with zero battery cycles and features a solid all-plastic build. While the trackpad may feel a bit loose, it's not a deal-breaker. The Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor and 4GB RAM provide smooth performance for light gaming and general use. Considering its price, this Chromebook is definitely worth considering. With 128GB storage, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, you'll have everything you need for basic tasks. The only compromise is the TN display, which may not offer the best viewing angles or brightness. Overall, this Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook is a great option for those on a budget.

Build

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook boasts an all-plastic build that feels solid despite its budget price point. The design language is reminiscent of the Flex 3i, with a partially textured lid providing grip and aesthetic appeal. The screen can be laid flat to almost 180°, but viewing angles are not ideal due to the TN panel. Weight-wise, it's slightly more than the Asus CX1500, clocking in at 1.79kg. Build quality is impressive for a budget Chromebook of this size, feeling sturdier than the Asus equivalent. For a superior build, Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro could be the right choice.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i's display is a mixed bag. While it's a full HD panel with good brightness (220 nits), it's a TN screen which results in washed out colors and poor viewing angles. This compromises the overall visual experience, making it less suitable for content creators or those who want an immersive viewing experience. However, Lenovo does offer options with IPS screens and touch capabilities on some models, so be sure to check the exact spec before purchasing. The display's limitations are a notable trade-off against the device's other attractive features. A better alternative might be Lenovo IdeaPad 5, featuring a next-level display.

Performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook boasts impressive performance for its price point. Powered by the Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor and 4GB RAM, this device handles light gaming like Real Racing 3 with ease. The recent 64-bit Chrome OS updates ensure smooth performance until June 2031. With a decent trackpad and responsive keyboard, users can enjoy seamless browsing and typing experiences. The Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor proves to be a reliable choice for daily tasks, making the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i a solid option for those seeking a budget-friendly Chromebook with robust performance capabilities. You may find Lenovo IdeaPad 5 a better fit, thanks to its superior performance.

Battery and Charging

The battery life on the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook is average, lasting about two days with light use before needing to be recharged. This is consistent with typical test results for this model. The charging speed is decent, allowing you to get back up and running within a few hours. Overall, the battery performance is satisfactory, making it suitable for casual users who only need a Chromebook for everyday tasks.

Connectivity

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook boasts standard connectivity features, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. On the left side, you'll find one USB-C port for power, data, and display out, as well as a full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, headphone jack, and microSD card slot. The right side features another full-size USB-A port, HDMI v1.4 port, and Kensington Nano security slot. While it's disappointing there's no dual USB-C for flexible placement, the available ports are sufficient for most users' needs. Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i might be a smarter choice, offering an upgraded connectivity.

Features

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook features an Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor, 4GB RAM, and 128GB storage, with some models offering the Celeron N4500 processor or varying RAM and storage capacities. It also has a 15.6-inch full HD TN display. For an improved features, Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 is worth considering.

Support and Maintenance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook offers reliable support and maintenance options. With Chrome OS updates until June 2031, you can enjoy the latest features and security patches for years to come. Additionally, this model's build quality feels solid enough, despite being an all-plastic design. The trackpad may require some adjustment, but overall, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook provides a stable and maintainable computing experience.

Pros

1. The Chromebook itself was in like new condition with zero battery Cycles

2. The trackpad is pretty decent for an entry-level Chromebook, it's a large size has a good click feel to it when pressed and responds well to gestures

3. The keyboard is a plus point to this Chromebook being a larger device you get the benefit of the number pad as well the keys have a medium travel to them and feel nicely responsive to type on

4. General performance is no issue, even with light gaming such as Real Racing 3

Cons

1. The build quality feels all plastic but it's solid enough which may be expected at this price point

2. The trackpad was a little loose feeling, which bugged me so I opened it up to adjust it and improve it (Note: not recommended as it voids the warranty)

3. The display is a compromise, full HD but TN rather than IPS, so it looks washed out and viewing angles are not great

4. There's only one USBC port for power data and display out
