Pros and Cons

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3

Strengths

The ThinkPad still has a better keyboard, no surprise.
It's extremely light and powerful, one of my favorite mobile workstations.
Battery life is decent, especially with the IPS Full HD options (5-6 hours).
Ventilation is good and speaker grills are present.

Weaknesses

The Core i7 v Pro configuration with OLED display might not have super duper battery life.
CPU core temperatures can go up into the 90s when pushing hard, making it toasty.
There's no surprise that ThinkPad has better keyboards, but XPS 15 is still a great option for those who want metal cladding and good aesthetics.
The bottom cover requires some effort to remove (Phillips head screws), which might be frustrating for some users.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Strengths

The build is solid, sturdy
The cooling system is extremely good
The laptop is very solid with a hinge that's easy to open with one hand
It can hold the screen at a deep angle without falling
The details are finished with a rough anodized coating ensuring high durability
The screen supports 2K resolutions with a refresh rate of 240 Hz
The cooling system is very efficient and quiet

Weaknesses

It's not the best choice compared to last year's AMD version
The CPU upgrade to Core i9-14900 HX only offers a slight improvement in single-core performance
The graphic cards remain the same as last year
There's no significant difference between Intel and AMD CPUs
Not having Thunderbolt ports is a drawback
It's not worth upgrading from last year's version if you can get an AMD CPU at a lower price
The slight improvement in single-core performance may not be noticeable in real-world usage

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2024 is a solid gaming laptop with a sturdy build and impressive cooling system. However, its performance enhancement is underwhelming compared to the predecessor. The CPU upgrade to Core i9-14900 HX only yields a 3-4% increase in single-core performance, making it less desirable than the last year's version. Additionally, AMD configurations offer better value with stronger multi-core performance and improved power efficiency, making them a more attractive choice for gaming enthusiasts.
