Pros and Cons

Toshiba Portege X30

Strengths

The weight is a very light weight just above 1 kilogram, making it easy to carry around.
The high quality screen is color accurate and non-reflective, with touch screen functionality.
The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a lightweight laptop, beating some newer laptops in 2024.
Buying a used device like this Toshiba Portege X30 is environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Weaknesses

The battery life may not be sufficient for everyone, lasting around 3-4 hours with 50% capacity left.
The SSD drive has SATA III specifications, which may be outdated for a high-end business laptop like this one.
The CPU inside the laptop (7th generation Core i5) is not compatible with Windows 11, requiring manual installation and no feature updates.
The price of around £155 when purchased in 2022 may seem low considering the device's specifications.

Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714

Strengths

The full aluminium outer chassis has felt great every time I've picked it up. The rounded corners make it easy to hold, and its reasonable weight (1.45 kg) makes it portable.
Performance is no issue at all with the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, making browsing and gaming a breeze. Battery life is also impressive, with close to 8 hours of mixed use (Acer claims up to 10 hours).
The device has plenty of connectivity options, including a HDMI port version 2.0, two Thunderbolt ports, and a quad HD webcam at the top of the screen.
The garaged active stylus works well and is a definite benefit for convertible use.

Weaknesses

The Intel Core Ultra 5 processor may not be powerful enough to handle demanding tasks like gaming, as seen with Call of Duty mobile season 10 crashing issues.
The fan and heat are still relatively minimal, but this may not be sufficient when pushing the device's capabilities.
The SSD in the device was slower than expected for transferring larger files, and it would have been ideal to have a USBC port on the right-hand side or another Thunderbolt Port for easier charging and data transfer.
There were occasional issues with the stylus tools prompt popping up when not in use, which seemed to be related to the device's firmware.
