Is it Worth it?

The MSI Vector 16 HX is a high-end gaming laptop with impressive specs, including an i9 processor, 12GB VRAM, and a 240Hz QHD display. However, its price tag is steep, making it inaccessible to many gamers. The Vector aims to change this by offering top-notch performance at a more affordable price point. I found the laptop's design to be bulky but efficient, with a retro aesthetic that prioritizes cooling over style. While not perfect, the Vector delivered excellent gaming experiences and decent audio quality. Ultimately, its value proposition makes it worth considering for gamers looking for high-end performance without breaking the bank.

Build

The MSI Vector 16 HX's design is a bold statement with its retro aesthetic and bulky build. This deliberate choice likely stems from the laptop's cooling system, which relies on air flow rather than a slim vapor chamber. The result is a loud, yet efficient, cooling mechanism that prioritizes performance over stealthiness. Despite initial reservations about the design language, I found the Vector 16 HX to be an effective and practical solution for gamers seeking high-performance capabilities without excessive frills or unnecessary embellishments. You may find MSI Sword 16 HX a better fit, thanks to its superior build.

Display

The MSI Vector 16 HX boasts a stunning 16in QHD+ IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate. While not an OLED panel, the screen delivers decent colors and brightness, making it suitable for gaming. The display's quality matches its internal specifications, offering a seamless visual experience. With its vibrant hues and crisp details, the Vector's display is a notable highlight of this laptop. Although not perfect, it's a solid choice for gamers who want an immersive visual experience without breaking the bank. Overall, the MSI Vector 16 HX's display is a strong point, making it a great option for those seeking a high-performance gaming laptop with a fantastic screen. If you’re after a better display, MSI Sword 16 HX could be the ideal option.

Performance

The MSI Vector 16 HX boasts impressive specs, including an i9 processor and 12 GB of VRAM. Performance-wise, this laptop delivers exceptional results, handling demanding tasks with ease. I maxed out its settings while playing Expedition 33 and was blown away by the smooth performance and lack of heat buildup. The laptop's cooling system may be loud during intense gaming sessions, but it effectively manages temperatures without causing discomfort. Overall, the Vector 16 HX proves to be a top-notch performer, suitable for even the most demanding gamers. MSI Sword 16 HX might be a smarter choice, offering an upgraded performance.

Battery and Charging

The MSI Vector 16 HX boasts an impressive design, but its battery life is somewhat average. With a 90Wh battery, you can expect around 4-5 hours of gaming time or 6-7 hours of general use. The charger pushes out 330W, which is convenient for topping up on the go. However, the laptop's power-hungry components and cooling system can lead to increased heat generation, which may affect battery life. Overall, a decent battery life, but not exceptional by any means.

Connectivity

The MSI Vector 16 HX boasts an impressive array of ports, including USB-A, USB-C, an SD card reader, and an HDMI output. The device also features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for seamless connectivity. However, the lack of a dedicated Ethernet port may be a drawback for those who require a wired internet connection. You might want to check out MSI Delta 15, featuring an upgraded connectivity for a superior experience.

Features

The MSI Vector 16 HX boasts a retro-style design, copper heat sinks, and blue feet. It features a 16in 240Hz QHD+ IPS display, 24 RGB backlight zones, and a chiclet-style keyboard with shortcut keys. The webcam is 30fps 1080p quality. Ports are located at the back for cable management. Take a look at MSI Prestige 15 - its improved features sets a new standard.

Support and Maintenance

The MSI Vector 16 HX delivers strong performance despite a bulky design. A 30fps 1080p webcam is included, as well as a decent display with a 240Hz QHD+ IPS panel. However, the laptop's loud cooling system may be a drawback for some users.

Pros

1. MSI took those high-end specs and put them in a laptop that skips out on some of the things that add to the cost of these laptops. All of the performance with none of the fluff.

2. The gaming experience overall was fantastic. It's not an OLED panel, so the blacks aren't the blackest, and the brightness isn't maximum as you can get out of some screens. However, who's going to be gaming in direct sunlight?

3. Overall, I actually do think MSI succeeded with dropping the price for a top-spec gaming device and yet still making it fun and exciting to use.

4. The keyboard itself is really decent to type on. I really enjoy a chiclet-style keyboard like this one.

Cons

1. It's very loud when you're gaming, especially when using the laptop standard, which makes it difficult to sneak in a gaming session at work

2. The laptop gets hot during gaming sessions, although it doesn't get too hot to handle.

3. The ports come out the back of the laptop, but this may cause cable clutter and take away from the overall aesthetic of the device

4. It weighs 2.7 kilograms, which is a bit heavy for some users
